What FitStarz does with your data
FitStarz is an internal app for the BitStarz company challenge. It reads a few fitness numbers from your phone and shows them to your colleagues on a leaderboard. That is the whole product, and this page is the whole policy.
- Your account id and display name
- Your avatar, if you upload one
- Per week: distance, steps, active kcal, and when the week was last synced
- Which app your data came from and your phone's brand, so we can help when a sync breaks
- Posts you publish: photos, videos, captions, and comments
- Height and weight, read on the device only to turn steps into distance
- Location, routes and GPS traces
- Heart rate, sleep, blood pressure, and every other health category
- Individual workouts and raw Health samples (only weekly totals are uploaded)
Who runs the app
FitStarz is built and operated by BitStarz for its own employees. It is not sold, not published on the App Store or Google Play, and not available to anyone outside the company challenge. Questions about your data go to the people running the challenge: ask them on the company Slack, the same place the challenge is announced.
What the app reads from Health
On iPhone the app reads from Apple Health, on Android from Health Connect. In both cases the categories are the same: walking and running workouts, walking and running distance, step count, and active energy burned. The app only ever reads. It never writes anything back into Health.
If your height and weight happen to be recorded, the app reads them too. They are used on the device alone, to work out how long your step is when a fitness app logs steps but no distance. Those two numbers are never uploaded and are never shown to anyone.
You can withdraw access at any time: on iPhone in Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Health ▸ FitStarz, on Android in the Health Connect app under app permissions. The app stops reading immediately. Numbers already recorded for past weeks stay on the leaderboard until you ask us to remove them.
Where the data is stored
Everything the app uploads goes to a server BitStarz runs itself, at api.bitstarzhub.com. Nothing is passed to advertising networks, data brokers, or any other third party, and nothing is sold. Your health data is never used for marketing, and it is never used to make decisions about you as an employee.
The app contains no analytics, tracking or advertising SDK. It talks to that one server and to nothing else.
Who can see your numbers
Other participants in the challenge see your name, your avatar, your weekly and total kilometres, steps and active kcal, and anything you post to the feed. That is the point of a leaderboard. The people administering the challenge can additionally see when your phone last synced and which fitness app the data came from, which is what makes it possible to fix a broken sync.
How long it is kept, and how to delete it
Weekly results and posts are kept for the duration of the challenge and afterwards as a record of the season. You can delete any post yourself from the feed. To have your account and all your results removed, ask the challenge organisers on the company Slack and it will be done.
Changes to this page
If what the app collects ever changes, this page changes with it, and the date below moves. There is no other version of this policy.
